The Pittsfield Resource Recovery Facility is compactly located on 5.8 acres adjacent to Crane & Company, manufacturers of American and international currency paper stock. The Pittsfield facility is one of the oldest continually operating energy-from-waste (EfW) facilities in the United States, having commenced operations in 1981. The facility processes 240 tons per day of solid waste generated from residential and commercial operations throughout Berkshire County. Annually, the facility produces over 400 million pounds of steam as well as 3.5 million kW hours of electricity used for facility operations. During its long and successful history, the facility has offset the use of 16,000 gallons of oil per day by Crane & Company.

Electrostatic Precipitators, Venturi Scrubbers, Wet Scrubbers and Activated Carbon Injection equipment for mercury and dioxin capture

Rated Refuse Capacity:

240 tons per day or 84,000 tons per year

Energy Generation @ Rated Capacity:

34,000 lbs. of steam per hour each refuse unit and 861 kW of in-house electricity via a vent turbine.

Sold to:

Crane & Company; steam used for papermaking process.
