(Austin, TX) Hawaii's Governor Linda Lingle’s recently spoke at the National Park Foundation Leadership Summit on Partnership and Philanthropy. In her comments, Governor Lingle discussed a marine debris program run by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The program collects nets from shoreline and reefs that are eventually transported to the city’s waste-to-energy facility, run by Covanta Energy. The debris is burned, producing steam which drives the turbine and creates electricity for the people Honolulu.
